By the end of each trip, whether I have been providing a workshop or focusing on a job, there's one (or simply two) frame(s) which i specifically fall deeply in love with. This never does not happen. I really believe it's about expanding an instant mental bond for the topic(s) in such casings.
WHEN I often notify those who sign up for my workshops...the professional photographer has to show up in a semblance of "love" along with his or her models. Whether posed or candid image shoots, successful imagery is determined by the shared bonds that grows between these people.
I had been in Kuala Lumpur previous month through the Nine Emperor Gods happening; an important Taoist spiritual festival which commences on the eve of 9th lunar month of the Chinese language calendar.
While the happening itself using its abnormal rituals and spiritual processions is a veritable feast for the eye, for the senses and by natural means for photography, I got there to picture the shows and back level activities of Chinese language Opera (Cantonese, Hokkien, Amoy, etc) troupes that placed on nightly shows nearby the temples to captivate the gods (as well as individuals audiences)*.
Adjacent to the Tokong Kau Ong Yah temple, the festival's hub in Ampang, was an elevated stage where an Amoy or Hokkien opera troupe held its nightly shows... not much better than a rickety edifice, it must've seen better days when Chinese opera was much more popular than it currently is.
It's at the back of this stage that I met "Wang"....at least, that's what I think his name is. It was difficult to decipher what he told me between the mouthfuls of rice he was having for a late lunch.
